Long black fur swished against the camp floor as Indigostar paced in the clearing. Her blue eyes were trained on the ground but her head was somewhere else. She was nervous. A month or so ago, the old leader had died, and as deputy it was her job to step up and fill in. She was scared to let her clan down, she was scared to let herself down. With this job, the whole fate of the clan rested on her back.
She hissed in frustration and sat down, closing her eyes. She took a deep breath, then another, then another. She was right on the edge of okay when she heard pawsteps behind her.
Ears twitching at the sound of never ending paw-steps, she sat up and looked around the clearing until she spotted the black-furred leader. It was easy to guess, for she had a look on her face, that the leader was troubled. But why? "Talonstar." she choked out as the dark cloud loomed over her again. The beloved leader.... her beloved leader had passed. (forget about the Talonstar part if he wasn't the leader before you or something. c:)
Maybe she should cheer the her up. She was probably scared or nervous. Being a leader is probably a big responsibility. No, it is a big responsibility. As she choked down the big lump in her throat she strolled towards the leader. It took a while for her face to become emotionless, or at least not sad. She spoke softly, "Big responsibility?"

Indigostar whipped around to face Blazenheart, a queen. She gave a slight sigh of relief as the cat spoke her exact fears. "Very big responsibility. Being a deputy is supposed to help you gain confidence, it never teaches you how to carry the weight of all the clan's inhabitants."She said in a frustrated voice.
She looked up at the sky and sighed deeply. Why aren't you here Owl-eyes, she thought.
Blazenheart's face erupted in a sympathetic sort of look. "I see." she nodded. "I'm sure the clan will support you in any way they can." She replied with a soothing voice. "I assume it takes time for all new leaders to settle. But after that i'm sure you'll be a great leader."
As she saw the she-cat look up into the sky she wondered what she was thinking about. She didn't ask, but instead she softly padded away and picked up a mouse from the fresh-kill pile. When she returned, she cast a worried glance at Indigostar before placing down the prey. "Eat this. It'll make you feel better." she mewed. Well it makes me feel better, she added.

Indigostar listened to the she-cat's voice and her shoulders instantly fell. She was about to say something when she heard pawsteps grow fainter. She sighed and looked down at her paws. She was about to just go back to her dark den when hurried pawsteps came back. A thud was heard by her paws and she looked to see a mouse. She looked backup at the queen and saw she looked worried.
"Thank you Blazenheart, I appreciate your help greatly."She purred and took a giant bite.
She smiled as the black she-cat took a much bigger bite than she thought she would take, and chuckled quietly. "I'll help anytime." she purred. "Are you excited for the gathering? It would be your first time as a leader." she mewed as she tilted her head to look at the she-cats face. She wondered if she had caused the leader to become nervous again and suddenly wanted to take back what she said.
"I-i mean it must be cool looking down at all the clans...." she trailed off and looked down at her paws.

Indigostar looked back up at the orange tabby with a slight smile. She took another bite of mouse, this one much smaller, and swallowed before answering."I'm excited, but also very nervous. It'll be strange to sit in the tree, rather than at its roots." She said lightly.
Blazenheart let out a quiet sigh of relief as the leader took it lightly. Her eyes drifted back to Indigostar and nodded her head in agreement. "You don't have to worry too much, though. I'm sure that if I were leader, talking in front of all the clans would be a disaster." she grinned. "But i'm sure that you were chosen as deputy for a reason. All leaders have a weakness. No wait, every cat has a weakness. You'll be fine as a leader!" she assured.
